Wayne Porter, Bill Gates, and Brad Saville

For those of you who don’t know Wayne Porter, he is a friend of mine and fellow West-Virginian. He is a prominent researcher on e-commerce, security, and virtual culture. He is a frequent public speaker on diverse topics including e-commerce fraud, spyware, blogging (and its death), and community development. He received, in 2006-2007, and 2007-2008, the Microsoft Security MVP designation. In addition, he was named by Google on their responsible security disclosure micro-site for work in security among a host of other honors.

Wayne also helped finance, and served as creative consultant for the film, Nothing So Strange, which won the New York Times Claiborne Pell Award for Original Vision.

Nothing So Strange is also one of the few open-source films that have gained such notierity. The film is mockumentray about the assasination of Bill Gates, Summer 2001. After September 11th, however, distributors were hesitant to release a film about such a touchy subject.

I am happy to announce that Wayne has asked me to colloborate on the open source aspects of Nothing So Strange and shoot additional footage, making it into something extraordinary and intriguing and original. Thanks for the opportunity, Wayne. I promise not to disappoint.

Syracuse New Times review of Williamsburg: “Plenty of sharp dialogue to spare… Hilarious.”

They say of Williamsburg:

“Saville prefers master shots of his black-and-white canvas to allow his cast lots of room to roam, and there’s plenty of sharp dialogue to spare, such as Truman telling his bedside playmate, “A writer must stay objective. Objectively speaking, love is impossible.” There’s also a hilarious segment involving Will’s creative conference with Bed-Stuy rapper G-Train (Rayon Lawrence) about the casting for an upcoming music video titled “Land of a Thousand Hos,” with G-Train demanding, “I like my bitches exotic.” Whether or not this sequence is still funny during the post-Don Imus era, however, will be up to the viewer.” –Syracuse New Times, April 2007

Delray Beach Film Festival an awesome vacation for filmmakers

The Delray Beach Film Festival, located in Delray Beach, Florida, slightly north of Boca Raton, is a good place to screen a movie, but a superb place to be pampered by Michael Polsner and his wonderful staff. With discounted rental cars and hotel rooms for the week, you are set to enjoy the 7-day spectacle at a very low cost: screenings all-day, every day, complimentary cocktails and food from 4 – 6pm and 10pm – 12am every evening at a different, fun venue.

I screened Williamsburg down there with Will Sargent (Director of Photography) and Penny Bittone (Actor) in March of 2007. Due to popular demand, we were able to screen the film three times at the Delray Regal Cinemas to excellent receptions. The Saturday night party was at the director of the festival Michael Polsner’s House. There was free liquor pouring, a sword-wielding Belly Dancer, lobster claws, king crab legs, sushi, and BBQ. Simply put, these peole know how to take care of filmmakers.

Below is a pic of us with the the production team of Before I Say Goodbye the most fun picture that we saw down there, but also the coolest people we met.
